Dr Ashok S. Ganguly is a noted industry expert and a former member of the Rajya Sabha. Dr Ganguly has been serving as a director on Wipro’s board since 1999. He also serves as a non-executive director of Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Ltd.
Dr Ganguly was born on July 28, 1935, in Patna. He obtained his B.Sc. degree from Jai Hind College, Mumbai, and Ph.D. in 1961 from the University of Illinois. Dr Ganguly worked for over 35 years with Unilever Plc. He was the chairman of Unilever Plc/N.V. from 1990 to 1997 and chairman of Hindustan Unilever Limited from 1980 to 1990. He is also a former member of the Board of British Airways Plc (1996–2005) and was on the Central Board of Directors of the Reserve Bank of India (2000–2009). Dr Ganguly received the Padma Bhushan award from the Government of India in January 1987 and the Padma Vibhushan award in January 2009.
